Location and Dates: Accra, Ghana, March through July 2024   

Position Description: The Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program is sponsored by U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. government and administered by IREX. It is governed by policies established by the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.   

Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms is a professional development opportunity for U.S. K-12 teachers. As part of their program, U.S. teachers will travel to Ghana for approximately two weeks in July 2024. The In-Country Consultant will work with IREX and the U.S. Embassy in Accra to coordinate and facilitate logistical and learning aspects of the two-week program.  

IREX seeks a candidate with knowledge of and experience in Ghana's education system, the ability to utilize existing and develop new networks with key players across the education sector, strong cross-cultural communication skills, and some experience in event management to facilitate an educational, historical, and cultural program experience for U.S. teachers.   

Selection Criteria:    

  • Depth of experience in the field of education.   

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and cross-culturally;   

  • Experience in event planning and management of travel groups is desirable;   

  • Established residency at the time of application and for the entirety of the program in Ghana;   

  • Reliable internet and phone access for daily use and access;   

  • Fluency in English;   

  • Ability to secure leave from current employment to be on-site in Accra for the in-country program dates: (tentatively July 13 –July 17 and July 25 –July 29, 2024);   

  • Proven strong collaboration, leadership, organization, and communication skills.   

Duties:    

  • The In-Country Consultant will work with IREX and other partners to accomplish the following:   

  • Program Planning and Coordination (March – July 2024)   

  • Support presentations on local education system and culture;   

  • Identify, plan for, and coordinate local cultural and historical site visits;   

  • Organize and facilitate meetings with local education officials;   

  • Arrange and lead visits to local schools;   

  • Support meetings with program partners at the U.S. Embassy and USIEF;   

  • Oversee planning of logistics such as meals, lodging, transportation, etc.;   

  • Regularly communicate with IREX staff in advance of program implementation (weekly meetings and additional communication as necessary);   

  • Provide translation services for contracts and invoices as needed, and interpretation services where needed for guest speakers, cultural and school site visits;   

  • Support program Implementation & Closeout (August)   

  • Deliver key presentations on the education system and culture and facilitate participant discussion groups;   

  • Accompany the group during cohort activities in Accra for the duration of their opening and closing program in the capital city;   

  • Serve as a point of contact in the event of an emergency during travel;   

  • Serve as primary liaison and provide support for U.S. teachers and IREX staff in-country;   

  • Prepare proper financial documentation and reconciliation of expenses;   

  • Resolve other program-related issues, as necessary;   

  • Create a report documenting the activities of the in-country program, including lessons learned and recommendations for future programming.   

Compensation and other provisions: The In-Country Consultant will be compensated for their services and IREX will pay for select travel, accommodations, and meal arrangements associated with the coordination and implementation of the program activity for the duration of the contract. Detailed information about the compensation structure will be provided during the interview process.
